Village of Idlewild drives city's home-building market - Business ...

Every month I look at real estate transactions and building permits for the city of Fredericksburg (and the rest of the area). Of late it has seemed that?every?few transactions involves the Village of Idlewild, and most of the building permit?activity does also. So I asked the city?s Building and Development Services department to put together information comparing the volume of residential building permits at the Village of Idlewild with the rest of the city. Here is the report that they very helpfully put together for me.

The data show that there have been 54 permits issued through August this year for new homes to be built at the Village of Idlewild (that compares with 59 year-to-date at Idlewild in 2010). For the entire rest of the city through August this year, there have been just 35 building permits issued?for new homes (compared with?32 year-to-date in 2010).

In other words, the Village of Idlewild has accounted for nearly 61 percent of the new homes getting built in the city this year. Granted Fredericksburg is a small city and?Idlewild is one of the few developments where?large numbers of lots are available for new homes, but I thought that was a pretty interesting statistic.
