FILIPINO singing sensation Sarah Geronimo recently held a concert in Yokohama City in Japan, an event welcomed by the Japanese embassy in Manila.

During her visit, Geronimo paid a courtesy call to State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Chiaki Takahashi.

?He [Takahashi] expressed his sincere gratitude for the support extended by the Filipino people at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake,? the statement said, referring to the tsunami and earthquake that devastated northeastern Japan in March of this year.

Since the disaster, the number of foreign visitors waned, the embassy said.

It added that Geronimo's visit "not only encouraged the Filipino people in Japan, but also conveyed a positive message to the entire world that Japan is a safe place to visit,? it said.

?Most parts of Japan have not been affected by the disaster at all, and remain ?open for business and travel?,? Takahashi said.

For her part, Geronimo also expressed gratitude for her Japanese hosts and Filipino fans in Japan.

"Despite the disaster, Japan supported me, and made my biggest concert successful. When I go back to the Philippines, I would like to send a message to the Filipinos that Japan is a safe country to visit, and encourage them to experience Japan," said the singer-actress who has been to Japan twice before.
