A critical commentary of Northern Irelands' changing face of ...

Presentation

The context of the construction work is relatively simple and focuses on the need for the staff that lives in the end zone to give the opening the door to another. Three years of university education of youth and society ? often in the context of Northern Ireland-related ? England, nearing completion, while a career in the profession associated with the more detailed investigation. Hence the need for the author to understand the circumstances under which they live in Northern Ireland in 2010. He has also provided that this document will form the basis for the next academic year term form to facilitate the achievement of the problems and history, briefly mentioned in this article.

To achieve this goal, the most important historical events between the lay community in Northern Ireland to be built will be analyzed and critically discussed. With perhaps the most important political document Anglo-Irish, you see a secular form is unique, but it is still disputed by the network of socio-religious cultural influence was present. This document is not to ask what happened before answer, perhaps a debate for the future. However, we also analyze the key events, people and organizations in culture, politics and religion in Northern Ireland to join the mistakes of the past, the Working Group. Once that was done, the recommendations are developed for all those interested and committed to see what a good way for development.

Northern Ireland and the context of EU energy policy

The history of Northern Ireland since its inception in 1921, is full of important events, both positive and negative, but often. Such is the complexity of the framework, these historical events in very different but have been together taken, including the influence of political parties, religious sects, cultural associations, groups and residents, the British and Irish Governments, the paramilitary leaders and international organizations .

When it comes to analyzing the current phase of the Community will come, it is important to note that recent events, rather than digging deep roots in the past 20 years. However, the relationship is important and often required to understand the development of society.

On 30 January 1972 (Museum of Free Derry 2005), thirteen men were killed by British troops in Londonderry during the participation in the civil rights movement that was banned in March. Although many believe that these measures ? including with regard to social mobilization of Catholics in this period ? the British Army in the design of the three decades of violence in Northern Ireland (Probert, 1978), the parade itself was part of a large number of events, of the civil rights in Northern Ireland (NiCr) (Widgery, Lord, 1972), the corruption of local governments, most Protestants (Minahan, JB, 2000, the organization organizes, Lydon, J, 1998) directed by Faulkner. Previously, in 1970, founded by the revolt of the bad feelings of the nationalist community, the Provisional IRA has been created, a ruthless gang of militants preparing to take over the British government to use force (McCreary, 1975; Probert, 1978). In fact, there were a number of positive examples of community empowerment in the country, as people of peace in 1976, Nobel Prize winner Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan (Nobel Web AB 2010 and undated Peacepeople.com) out. As this example shows NICRA can often by the violence that surrounds them are overshadowed. Movement NICRA and top button in Londonderry, personal opinion should, with a catalyst for change in mass against the oppression of a corrupt minority credited Catholic Protestant majority. Instead, he is immortal ? and rightly so ? by many because of the losses suffered and the violence and some members of the community of troublemakers who deserve what they have accused. Wilson (1998) We will never know if would have met with peaceful means NICRA the government of Northern Ireland rather than in direct property as a result of the violent crisis in which the British government should be regarded as resolved path, looking for quickly and efficiently. And "the opinion of this document in a peaceful way to achieve, but the delay was much longer and the fight against sectarian government in much of Stormont.

Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement

Many believe that the Good Friday Agreement (GFA) only conversations that take place at Stormont born in the new year of 1998 was up to Easter, but it is a mistake. Many commentators (Craig, J., 2002, Morton, A, 2009) suggest that the roots of the GFA, which was signed planted in the Anglo-Irish Agreement in 1984. Personal feelings sugesst in Downing Street in 1991 and the subsequent risk-taking John Hulme was the catalyst for change. In short, there can be little argument against the fact that the events of 1991 caused a shift in paramilitary groups, the ceasefire of the IRA and the unionists in 1994. For the first time in nearly three decades, the people of Northern Ireland have a minimum of conflict, if only briefly.

The British government took the Sinn Fein in a change of mind in Republican circles and was a long way to prevent the entry of the Thatcher years, three years ago (BBC News, 2005). The Republicans are in political talks with representatives of the British government, which not only upset the unions have been recorded, but the hard-line Republicans in the process and ultimately forced a split that led the Real IRA. It would be absurd to say that there was a catastrophic event in the Republican community, but the options, the Republican and Unionist community in Northern Ireland would face much more demanding. According to a personal opinion the most important event, directly involved in the development of HFA led democratically elected "Northern Ireland Forum in 1996 (Whyte, N, 2003) was. This was the first important step on the way to delegate the research community government for political representatives from all parts of the gap begin to communicate.

The new face: community work pre-GFA

In areas with a Catholic majority, "groups of concerned residents" a lot of publicity in the press about the Loyal Order parades over the objections of their domains. They received much criticism in the media loyal, so often there would be a different relationship with Sinn Fein and the "chairman" of many of these groups should not be in these areas. A familiar example is the Garvaghy Road, was Brendan McKenna, the leader of a group of local residents to protest against Portadown Orange Lodge are invited to this particular road (BBC News, 2007). While leading this particular group of residents in Portadown, was a resident of West Belfast, about 30 miles.

Where did the republican community service has always been associated with close contact with Sinn Fein in combination, in areas that are loyal, links are not political, but rather connected with paramilitary groups, the "monitoring" of the region. Of course, we have targeted political parties like the Progressive Unionist Party (PUP), and a historic measure, the Democratic Unionist Party Ian Paisley (DUP), to have been adapted to the movements of workers loyal to 1980 and was regarded as the face of the Council strike in 1974 in Ulster, "because of his opposition to the Sunningdale agreement (BBC News, undated, Probert, 1978). Indeed, Paisley is seen as the godfather of Ulster loyalism seen, and the face of politics in Northern Ireland, made his famous speech in November 1985 and cemented his legacy shows the depth of the opposition "feels toward a wider agreement, which was Anglo-Irish Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher favorable, because" you want better relations between Britain and the Republic of Ireland to create. In this speech met with more than 100,000 people in the Belfast City Hall, said the Rev. Paisley;

"I have a question today. And the question is simple. If the terrorists to operate from? In the Republic of Ireland, this is where they come from, where the terrorists are back to the shrine? For the Republic of Ireland! But the lady. Thatcher said that the Republic should have a say in our province, I will never, never, never, never! "

(Youtube.com, 2009).

This does not mean that the paramilitaries were open to cooperation with the community, but it was known, names of organizations or former members of the press is seen as a "community workers" (BBC News, 2009). Basically, the employees of online communities have a high degree of skepticism that surrounds them will, for this reason, and also from the public are obtained by comparing the profession.

The Good Friday Agreement and the Community of work

Although not explicit in its intentions, the Good Friday Agreement a number of references to the work, particularly with regard to reconciliation efforts (for Northern Ireland, 1998). What the institutions are created, would the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission will be "? a member of the North, which reflects the balance of the community ? "(Rights, guarantees and equal opportunities ? Human Rights, Article 5); Equality Commission to replace the four sub-committees (Article 6) and discussions to further examine a section devoted to equality (Article 7).

Basically, Section Twelve of the contract that the biggest impact of Community law in Northern Ireland can say:

"? Young people in the affected areas have specific problems and the development of initiatives on the international best-practice-based ? are the means of legal organizations and communities to be on a voluntary basis, to facilitate local networks of self-help and support . '(Article 12).

Markets, social integration as the need for priority "to give the development community to identify ? Further comments were in" Human Rights rights, guarantees and equity "and made the promotion of women in public life," Scope (Article 1). A key is given to the Irish community who speak the language in Northern Ireland and the need for integration and connection with the community.

The new face: After work, GFA Community

Since the Good Friday Agreement, the political structures have a common position and voice of his arrest, be subjected to constant stress. In contrast, not all without problems, in relation to the implementation of the work carried out in an orderly and progressive. 21st Century in Northern Ireland, nonprofit organizations and individuals are increasingly better known and recognized. Many workers in the Community "is followed often recognized by the names of people, men, the paramilitaries have been linked, and although I firmly believe that more respect and try to eliminate public skepticism about the profession, have We have strong training programs and consistent understanding of what an EU worker is or not, we can not afford to write these people work hard for more. He felt personally that often, when local media seek the views of a " social worker "is a simple problem. It is" the clumsy police tactics, "or perhaps" in the community caused this reaction, "but still feel the need to" talk to rest. "Of course I am not so ignorant to claim that the employee in a residential area, 95% Protestants have no intention of representing the people and their views, but it's really a role to play in public?

We need to understand that, we need these records and this must be done immediately. It is not enough to be on the University of Ulster, in exchange for work during the youth of the community in line with the rest of the United Kingdom, we must remember that we are a truly unique regional issues regionally. Do not go to the house of a friend and said: "Come see my new kitchen, I think it is as beautiful as you" when his friends "in the kitchen is almost perfect, while yours is the door of his" Hinges and Tiles were missing from his home there. There is absolutely no point in Northern Ireland to try the same in the rest of the United Kingdom to do in relation to youth work and community, if we solve our basic problems. It will not be easy to solve since the new protocols, policies and procedures are not these problems overnight, because there is a problem with the profession itself. It is my thesis that we are in a paradox, consider where the profession to a profession, we have the best time to change the mindset of the community to accept the changes use are, and it will not be easy.

Two in one: In addition to the Community

Of course there is a fundamental difference in Northern Ireland for their country 20 years ago and is the simple fact that violence has disappeared almost completely, or at least certainly not comparable to what it was. And "perhaps most important were the definition of these changes in relation to other aspects of culture such as sports, arts, entertainment, financial systems and so on. He watched in recent years, the concept of pluralistic society in decreasing amounts with politicians, especially, the willingness to promote measures that I unite sects in Northern Ireland Finally, as a community.

Compared to those in other parts of the United Kingdom, the cultural scene in Northern Ireland "was largely ignored by most of the problems. Especially in the music, many acts of the dates for Northern Ireland on the way to announce or not. Often aborted because of violent change and progress in the peace process can not be underestimated, and examples for the years show the agreement in principle ", scenarios and data to build the provinces Festival Musica:

The Waterfront Hall, in 1997 (Belfast Waterfront, undated) Glasgowbury Music Festival opens, ongoing since 2000 (Glasgowbury Music Group, undated) The Odyssey Arena and Pavilion, opened in 2000 (Odysseyarena. com, 2009) Tennant's major music festival from 2002 to 2007, citing the saturation of the market for the music festival (tennantsvital.com undated).

Case Study: File a Phobail

These examples aside, there are community-based festival in progress since 1988 "Feile an" Phobail, often known in English as a community festival, "The West Belfast Festival, but also directly translated from the Irish" "(file Phobail West Belfast: 2010 ). This festival is always on the receiving end of criticism (culturenorthernireland.org, undated), mainly Unionist circles as "not true" celebration of community, because of links with republicanism and Sinn Fein into it. We must ask, however, this criticism fair? Finally, the area west of Belfast, usually a Republican bastion. Although some critics argue that trade unionists, a political point or two, the view that the file would be Phobail festival is not all-inclusive community, were particularly through the use of Gaelic as their main occupation guests. Yes, West Belfast, as mentioned, a large Catholic majority but also the Protestant stronghold of Shankill Road. So in the last twenty years, file an Phobail in Belfast was a celebration, a festival in West Belfast, or a celebration for the Catholic church? While you may not have been the intentions of the organizers, rightly or wrongly, it is simply a feast for the Catholic community in the region, with the strange feeling undesirable.

The vast majority of the objects and subjects that were frequently before 1998 as "property" of one or the other community. For example, it is also musical performances from the debate of religious and political divisions, is a clear case of "hard" punk little finger, especially for his success rebel song, "Alternative Ulster", which includes the following letter to the Royal Ulster Constabulary ;

"Get an Alternative Ulster

As an anti-security forces,

Change your language Ulster

Changing his home ?

? To know where you live,

You have your way in the army,

And the RUC dog of repression,

Barking at his feet,

This is the kind of place where I want to live,

This is where we want to be?,

It is the only life you have? "

(Stiff Little Fingers, 1978)

Another less obvious example would be "The Undertones, famous for his success," Teenage Kicks ", the (undated theundertones.com,) with a fan base as the most Catholic city of Londonderry Republican majority were to be associated

However, this is important to define and celebrate the existence of the puzzle is where, in moments of difficulty, where a source of healing and unity in a country so deeply divided. The most famous footballer George Best is of course the Although the team for Northern Ireland International, a support team with many Protestants, his fame and his reputation has played as one of the largest in the world, automatically makes him the most famous son of the country. In turn, struck the public imagination and support of their services, regardless of their religious or political affiliation. An example, less known but equally important for the country, was Joey Dunlop, the world road race champion. Calm personality, an extraordinary effort for charitable purposes and abroad, and his contempt for the religious public and political debate largely the man of the people. Both men died, and I agree that his accomplishments as an athlete success in the foreground, one can say that the large crowds at his funeral and tributes were also due to the relationship created by people of all communities in Northern Ireland.

Help or a hindrance: the current political climate

A number of skeptics (Walker, B, 2010) argues that think the parties that the semi-scandals, or at least they use to their advantage, especially to save time and bargaining power in advance of negotiations, the return of oversight and judicial in Hillsborough. It would be personal opinion is that at least these scandals in some way, more time was used, but involved both the media and public policy in this country like never before.

It has some high-profile developments in Northern Irish politics in the last 6 months, including the scandals, Gerry Adams, Peter Robinson and Robinson of Ireland. In addition, we had the last events of the "Agreement of Hillsborough" in the police and the judiciary, the number of public notices and guidelines (Traditional Unionist Voice, 2010, the Alliance Party of Ireland has received North, 2010 [in] The Ulster Unionist Party, 2010). The Hillsborough Agreement consists of eight main points, with the largest population profile, the question Parades (BBC News [a], 2010).

Immediately after the analysis of the Hillsborough Convention and other relevant information that is personal to the vision that some aspects of the plans impact on the work in the modern church in the country can come. First, one could say that the solution to the problem of organized parades and hope for people locally to resolve these local issues as a possible role for workers within the Community should be considered. This task can not fall into the hands of politicians. It is a task for the political parties to seek the views and organize people to sensitive issues such as fashion shows, address, particularly when partisan cause in a climate such as in Northern Ireland near the end of orientation of the gap relgio- cultural or otherwise.

Devolution of police and justice system is not without problems Monday, 12 April, 2010 was when a car bomb in connection with the Real IRA exploded transfer time after midnight (BBC News, 2010 [b]). An important step, however, the election of David Ford, president of the alliance, as President of the Supreme Court, because the position of the North to get rid of tribal politics (The Alliance Party Northern Ireland, 2010 [b]).

Recommendations for changes

In this work, a number of suggestions and proposals for change is, of course, that prior to the conclusion that the collection of these recommendations.

Skeptical challenge community work for the general community work; i. The standardization of this title is an "employee of the community" and not allow the misuse of the word write, ii. The new policy and procedure sets out what is in a period of one worker in the community and III which are the responsibility of local politics. Challenge to the municipalities to organize themselves to active international community and to engage more with local political representatives. Make sure that the recent political agreements and Hillsborough St. Andrews, such as "Good Friday Agreement was approved, the only document that democratically by all three individuals from the" one ahead of the will of the island of Ireland. PoliticsPoliticians must stay out of the business and activities of local communities. Everyone should support the work of the church, is nonpartisan and understanding of diverse cultural and mixed in the province. Members of the Legislative Assembly will work closely with the nonprofit sector, to achieve the objectives of the Hillsborough River. This is particularly necessary in view of solving the problem of parades, social workers are often best suited to in discussions and disputes that may arise convey.

Completion

In short, it is important for us to understand that Northern Ireland has always been a very complex society, and will remain for the foreseeable future. The goal of the socio-religious culture that has developed all aspects of society in Northern Ireland is covered gradually by a modern, cosmopolitan, but the values ??inherent in the conservative older generations, nations, and his memory will continue fiercely violent attacks.

What was demonstrated in this work is that there is an established process, willing to work in a community that is directly sensitive and respectful. While the community development work has become a profession more modern, effective and respected, will in turn benefit our communities and our sphere of influence of this policy. Although the recommendations in this document is subject to a higher level of commitment by the government decision-makers are seen in the community, it is planned to come into contact with it, are motivated to understand and accept the changes must be made.
