Bubba Watson sports camo clothing for charity

?

Bethesda, Md. -- Bubba Watson has not made a lot of noise with his golf this week at the U.S. Open, but, thanks to his camo golf trousers, the boomer from Bagdad (Fla.) has hardly gone unnoticed.

In case you were wondering why Watson has teed it up for three days in the same outfit, it?s for a good cause.

?We [he and golf clothier Travis Mathew] had a?contest?on Twitter and Facebook," Watson told us Saturday, shortly after carding a 3-over in his third round at Congressional Country Club. "We picked the best designs and picked the one we liked the best that best represents what we were trying wanted to do and we gave [the contest winner] a free trip to the U.S. Open.

"So he?s walking around somewhere with his family," Watson said, "and I?m wearing the shirt everyday and selling it for charity."

The recipient of Watson?s largesse -- Birdies for the Brave?s Green Beret Foundation -- is one that?s near and dear to Watson?s heart.

"My dad was in Vietnam, so yeah, [the military] a big part of us," said Watson, whose father passed away last year. "We gotta support [military personnel] fighting so we can play golf for a living."

As for his game at Congressional, Watson proved he had not lost his sense of humor, despite sitting at 7-over -- 18 strokes back of leader Rory McIlroy, who teed off Saturday at 3:50 p.m.

"It?s [his third round] not very good," Watson said. "I just can?t get anything going this week."

Why? "I?m just not that good," the 32-year-old member of the PGA Tour?s first and only rock band,?Golf Boys, deadpanned. "It?s just as simple as that. This is just not a week for me; I?m just kinda struggling."

So, what did Watson plan to do to prepare for Sunday?s final round? "Right now I?m going to get something to eat," he said. "I don?t practice after the round. I?m lazy."

Yeah, right.

You may purchase one of Bubba?s limited edition "U.S. Open Polo" shirts for $99.95 at the?Travis Mathew website, with $10 from each sale going to Watson?s charity.
