Sports Authority has signed a lease for 40,000 square feet in an anchor location formerly occupied by Mervyn?s at Santa Fe Place. The store is scheduled to open next spring in New Mexico?s capital city.

Texas-based Trademark Property Co. acquired the 571,238-square-foot Santa Fe Place on Cerrillos Road two years ago and has said the leasing of the former Mervyn?s space would be a catalyst to getting the rest of the center revived.

?The transformation of this mall continues to move in the right direction,? said Trademark Chairman and CEO Terry Montesi. ?The first step was to stabilize the mall by adding an attractive new anchor to join Dillard?s, JCPenney and Sears, and Sports Authority fits the bill perfectly.?

The Sports Authority Inc. is headquartered in Englewood, Colo. and operates more than 450 stores in 45 U.S. states including a store at Albuquerque?s Winrock Town Center.
