PowerSkin Battery Case for iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 review

If you updated to iOS 6 on your iPhone 4S or iPhone 4 and despite all our battery life tips, still aren't getting enough power to get you through the day, or if you simply travel and need to recharge on the go, the PowerSkin Battery Case for iPhone is worth a look. Like other battery cases, the PowerSkin fits snugly over your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S -- sorry, no iPhone 5 version available yet! -- and hooks into the Dock connector to supply power.

PowerSkin Battery Case for iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 review

Unlike some competing cases, the PowerSkin isn't made out of hard plastic. It's soft and silicone, which means instead of you having to take it apart to put it on your iPhone, it's a single piece and you just slip your iPhone inside. The materials used for the PowerSkin also have some other advantages. First, they're light. The PowerSkin is lighter than a lot of other battery cases I've tried (though admittedly not sleeker). Second, the materials provide for a soft-touch finish, making it less likely you'll drop it to begin with. Third and most importantly, they're shock absorbing. So, it helps prevent you from dropping your iPhone, and when it can't prevent it, it helps your iPhone survive it. Double bonus. If you're going to have to deal with the extra bulk of a battery case, you might as well enjoy the benefits of some extra impact protection as well.

The PowerSkin Battery Case for iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 charges over USB and it'll charge your iPhone before topping itself up, meaning you'll have a fully charged iPhone and a fully charged PowerSkin at the end of the cycle. You can even sync with iTunes over the cable, if you haven't gone PC Free yet.

The battery inside the PowerSkin is 1500mAh which is roughly analogous to the one inside the iPhone, so you should get double the battery life overall. The PowerSkin has a battery level indicator that consists of 4 lights and shows you the remaining charge level -- 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, or nothing. PowerSkin rates it as providing 5 extra hours of talk time and 200 extra hours of standby time.

The design is nice and the Matte Titanium PowerSkin model I was sent to review reminded me of the look of the original iPhone -- a metal back with a black swatch, albeit across the top instead of the bottom. My only nitpick is that the inside bottom of the PowerSkin doesn't join up flush with the bottom of the iPhone, leaving a gap, so dirt can get in. I'd prefer a closed design there.

All your iPhone buttons remain accessible when inside the PowerSkin Battery Case. There's a deep cutout for the ring/silence switch and volume buttons, but it's not too hard to get into. The on/off button is covered, however, and uses a pass-through which required quite a bit of pressure to successfully toggle. You might need to do some extra pushups first. The camera, likewise, is well cut out.

The good

  • Provides as much power as a fully charged iPhone
  • Silicone is light, soft-touch, and shock absorbing

The bad

  • Botton doesn't sit flush

The bottom line

If you're rocking an iPhone 4S or an iPhone 4 and you absolutely need to make it through the day and then some, the PowerSkin Charge case is a solid choice. If you want something slimmer or sleeker, you'll need to look at other options, but if you don't mind the bulk offset by the lightness, soft-touch, and shock absorbing properties of the silicone, give the PowerSkin a look.

Researchers discover what vampire squids eat

Thursday, September 27, 2012

About 100 years ago, marine biologists hauled the first vampire squid up from the depths of the sea. Since that time, perhaps a dozen scientific papers have been published on this mysterious animal, but no one has been able to figure out exactly what it eats. A new paper by MBARI Postdoctoral Fellow Henk-Jan Hoving and Senior Scientist Bruce Robison shows for the first time that, unlike its relatives the octopuses and squids, which eat live prey, the vampire squid uses two thread-like filaments to capture bits of organic debris that sink down from the ocean surface into the deep sea.

It's easy to imagine the vampire squid as a nightmarish predator. It lurks in the eternal midnight of the deep sea, has a dark red body, huge blue eyes, and a cloak-like web that stretches between its eight arms. When threatened, it turns inside out, exposing rows of wicked-looking "cirri." Even its scientific name, Vampyroteuthis infernalis, means "vampire squid from hell."

In reality, the vampire squid is a soft-bodied, passive creature, about the size, shape, and color of a football. A "living fossil," it inhabits the deep waters of all the world's ocean basins at depths where there is almost no oxygen, but also relatively few predators.

A few previous researchers have caught vampire squids in nets, hauled them up to the surface, and tried to figure out what they ate by examining the contents of their stomachs. The results were generally inconclusive. The stomachs typically contained bits and pieces of tiny, shrimp-like animals, microscopic algae, and lots of slimy goo.

In a recent article in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, Hoving and Robison show that vampire squids eat mostly "marine snow"?a mixture of dead bodies, poop, and snot. The dead bodies are the remains of microscopic algae and animals that live in the waters farther up in the ocean, but sink down into the depths after they die. The poop consists of fecal pellets from small, shrimp-like animals such as copepods or krill. The snot is mostly debris from gelatinous animals called larvaceans, which filter and consume marine snow using mucus nets.

In addition to looking at the stomach-contents of vampire squids from museum collections, the researchers used MBARI's remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to collect live vampire squids and study their feeding habits in the laboratory. They also examined high-definition videos of vampire squids taken by MBARI's ROVs. Finally, they examined vampire-squid arms and feeding filaments under optical and scanning electron microscopes.

One key to Hoving and Robison's discovery was that they used MBARI's ROVs to collect living vampire squids, and were able to keep them alive in the laboratory for months at a time. Hoving soon found that if he placed bits and pieces of microscopic animals into a tank with a vampire squid, the food particles would stick to one of the string-like filaments that the animal sometimes extends outward from its body. The vampire squid would then draw the filament through its arms, removing the particles from the filament and enveloping them in mucus. Finally, the squid would transfer the glob of mucus and particles to its mouth and consume it.

Using MBARI's video annotation and reference system (VARS), Hoving also identified every MBARI ROV dive over the last 25 years during which researchers had seen a vampire squid. He then pored over 170 of these video clips (over 23 hours of footage) to look for additional clues as to what and how the animals ate.

The videos showed that vampire squids often drift motionless in the water, extending one of their thin filaments?up to eight times as long as the animal's body?like a fishing line. In many cases, Hoving saw bits of marine snow sticking to the filament. He also saw vampire squids slowly pulling in their filaments and scraping off the accumulated marine snow using their arms. Other vampire squids had globs of marine snow and mucus dangling from their mouths.

Under the microscope, the researchers observed that the vampire squid's suckers were covered with cells that produce mucus, which the animal apparently uses to collect and glue together individual particles of marine snow. Their filaments are covered with tiny hairs and a dense net of sensory nerves, which makes them extremely sensitive to touch.

When looking at vampire squids' stomach contents, the researchers did not see bones or pieces of individual animals that would indicate the vampire squids had captured live prey. Instead, they saw mostly amorphous bits of broken-up organic debris. The only prey they saw that might have been eaten alive were the remains of tiny crustaceans that sometimes "hitchhike" on sinking mucus nets or clumps of the marine snow.

After considering all the evidence, Hoving and Robison conclude that, "the vampire squid's filament is likely a multifunctional organ that is deployed to detect and capture detrital matter but at the same time may detect the presence of predators and perhaps small living prey."

The organic detritus that forms the bulk of the vampire squid's diet would not seem to be particularly nutritious. However vampire squids complement their frugal diet with an extremely energy-efficient lifestyle and unique adaptations. Their bodies are neutrally buoyant, so they don't have to expend energy to stay at a particular depth. Even better, they don't have to swim to find food, but simply extend their filaments to collect food that drifts past them.

Finally, vampire squids don't have to expend much energy avoiding predators, because they live at depths where there is so little oxygen that few other animals can survive. Conveniently, these deep, low-oxygen zones are often found where there is an abundance of life near the sea surface, which in turn creates lots of marine snow for vampire squids to eat. Hoving explains, "Because of its unique adaptations, the vampire squid is able to permanently and successfully inhabit the center of the oxygen minimum zone, an otherwise hostile environment where the vampire squid's predators are few, and its food is abundant."

Even though Hoving and Robison's research shows that the vampire squid is a "detritivore" rather than an active predator, its sinister appearance and stealthy habits will no doubt continue to fascinate both researchers and the general public.

Israelis see no Iran war this year after Netanyahu's speech

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's U.N. speech about Iranian nuclear advances has dampened speculation in Israel that he could order a war this year.

Analyzing Thursday's address in which Netanyahu literally drew a "red line" on a cartoon bomb to show how close Iran was to building nuclear weaponry, commentators saw his deadline for any military action falling in early or mid-2013, well after U.S. elections in November and a possible snap Israeli poll.

"The 'decisive year' of 2012 will pass without decisiveness," wrote Ofer Shelah of Maariv newspaper on Friday.

Without explicitly saying so, Netanyahu implied Israel would attack Iran's uranium enrichment facilities if they were allowed to process potential weapons-grade material beyond his red line.

Maariv and another mass-circulation Israeli daily, Yedioth Ahronoth, said spring 2013 now looked like Netanyahu's target date, given his prediction that by then Iran may have amassed enough 20 percent-enriched uranium for a first bomb, if purified further.

But the front pages of the liberal Haaretz and pro-government Israel Hayom newspapers cited mid-2013 - Netanyahu's outside estimate for when the Iranians would be ready to embark on the last stage of building such a weapon, which could take only "a few months, possibly a few weeks".

Iran, which denies it is seeking nuclear arms, said Netanyahu's speech made "baseless and absurd allegations" and that the Islamic Republic "reserves its full right to retaliate with full force against any attack". Israel is widely assumed to have the Middle East's only atomic arsenal.

Israeli diplomats were reluctant to elaborate on Netanyahu's speech, saying its main aim was to illustrate the threat from Tehran.

Asked on Israel's Army Radio whether Netanyahu had signaled he would strike in the spring if U.S. and European Union sanctions fail to curb Iran's nuclear work, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said: "No, no, I would not go that far."

"The prime minister clarified a message to the international community (that) if they want to prevent the next war, they must prevent a nuclear Iran," Lieberman added.

TRUCE WITH OBAMA

Netanyahu's increasingly hawkish words on Iran in recent weeks and months strained relations with U.S. President Barack Obama, who has resisted the calls to set Tehran an ultimatum while fending off charges by his Republican rival, Mitt Romney, that he is soft on Israel's security.

Netanyahu praised Obama's resolve in his U.N. address, which the prime minister described as advancing their "common goal" - a strong signal that Israel would not blindside Washington with a unilateral attack on Iran.

Israel Hayom pundit Dan Margalit said the speech constituted "an almost explicit acknowledgment that he (Netanyahu) is declaring a truce in the public argument between him and the president. At least, until after the (U.S.) election."

Netanyahu has political worries too, given deadlock in his coalition government over the 2013 budget which, if not ratified by December, could trigger an early Israeli election next year.

In a broadcast editorial, Army Radio depicted war with Iran as no longer an imminent dilemma troubling the prime minister.

Instead, the station said, Netanyahu would have to decide "whether he is going to elections sooner, in January, February, or maybe March, or whether he will be able to pass the budget, take care of the Iranian issue and then go to elections in October (2013) as scheduled."

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said this month that Washington would have "about a year" to stop Iran should it decide to cross the threshold of producing nuclear weaponry - a more expansive timeline than that put forward by Israel.

That could spell fresh clashes between the allies over Tehran's continued 20-percent uranium enrichment, a process the Iranians say they need for medical isotopes but that also brings the fissile material much closer to weapons grade.

An Israeli official briefed on the government's Iran strategy cautioned against interpreting dates Netanyahu gave at the United Nations as deadlines, saying the preparations had already been made for military strikes.

"When he says Iran will have a bomb by this-or-that point in time, that in no way means the war option must wait until then," the official told Reuters. "There are other considerations to the timing - operational and strategic."

10 Mompreneurs Who Made It Big | Toddler Times

top4 300x261 10 Mom Entrepreneurs Who Made It BigI?ve always been inspired by women in business. Particularly, mothers. Even more-so now, years after I?ve started up my own small business and began freelancing as a writer. (It still feels somewhat odd to type out those words). I?ve face hard truths and have had to make tough financial decisions.

When I first thought of opening up my own business, I must admit I didn?t give much thought to the added toll that the first few years of launching a brand (successfully) would have on my family. I only thought of the future. Our financial security for the future. The present got lost. A very tough lesson to learn on measuring what is really important in life. To me, anyways.

That?s when I began to look for success stories. To surround myself with other mothers who were entrepreneurs and working really hard to keep everything afloat and dare I say it, even become?successful. It?s no easy feat juggling work and home life, no matter how you?re working it. To me, making it big as an entrepreneur doesn?t just equal fame and fortune.

Being a?successful?mom?entrepreneur?is all about remaining financially aware and responsible. Staying on top of market and social/technological trends and developing a brand that respects the world we live in, inspires and supports other mothers. Leaders of innovative invention and?solutions?to real issues.

Caroline Freedman & Lauren McCollough of NurturMe

They saw a void in the baby food market. Everything was jarred, thick and heavy - often full of preservatives to keep it "fresh." Together, they created a product line of dehydrated powdered baby food made from organic fruits and veggies that reconstitutes itself with water, milk, or breastmilk. In it's first 10 months, NurturMe went big; sales sky-rocketed and orders started coming in from national chains like Target, Babies 'R' Us and Whole Foods. All that's next for these two mamas is the acquisition of their brand and they can retire for life!

Just because she's my good pal doesn't mean she's not fair game. Conflict of interest? Nah. This woman means business and has been incredibly successful in it. New Moon Kitchen is a vegan brand of cookies that actually taste good. She went from operating out of an apartment with a gas powered confection oven plugged in the living room, making deliveries around Toronto; to running a large warehouse staffed with a bevy of full-time employees. Laura Berg has written the holy grail of baby signing. She may very well be the one responsible for the huge trend that it is now. What began a self-created curriculum for her grade 8 students to better help them learn through ASL (American Sign Language), quickly turned into the trademarked brand, My Smart Hands. An international company with over 100 instructors and going strong, Laura's vision and expertise has turned into a company that teaches parents and teachers how to sign with their babies; long before they can talk and to communicate with their hearing impaired children and students.

    Paula Deen

Y'all, I LOVE this woman. She is a true survivor. I'm sure not much of an introduction is needed here, as her face and gregarious, winsome personality is pretty famous. However, what you may not know is that Paula Deen didn't always have it so good. Death and tragedy early in life didn't get the best of her, neither did her debilitating agoraphobia. She went from (with the help of her two charming boys), operating her own catering company out of their home to publishing a bunch of top selling cookbooks, is a Food Network star and runs two swanky restaurants oozing the Southern hospitality and charm she is known for. Real Estate Buying Ideas You Can Use | Eric Chua : Life, Business ...

A key concern of aspiring homeowners is wondering how their future property will hold up in value through the coming years. Continue reading this article to read what you need to know to be successful in your real estate purchases.

When shopping for your new home, it is important to consider future needs. If you are planning on having kids, make sure that you purchase a home that has a good school nearby.

Set aside a fund for unexpected expenses linked to the new property. The closing costs are usually calculated by adding the prorated taxes, bank points and down payment. However, most of the time, extra things are included in closing costs, such as improvement bonds, school taxes, and other specific items related to the area.

TIP! Try to understand mortgage loan terms before you go to buy a home. Knowing how your monthly mortgage payment is impacted by the length of your mortgage, and the effect on total cost over the entire loan period, will help clear up any confusion later on.

During the home purchasing process, make sure you hire the people you rely on for expertise. You might be tempted to use the seller?s house inspectors or appraisers. Of course, it will cost you money, but it could save you thousands in the end. However, the best option is to hire those individuals you feel comfortable with and have a level of trust with. If you are sure you get the truth from the beginning, you can save yourself a lot of money and stress later on.

If you get any home you are looking to buy appraised, accept an appraiser with no less than five years of experience. Avoid hiring appraisers that are recommended by the real estate agency. There could be a very real conflict of interest at play. State agencies regulate all appraisers, so check your appraiser?s license or certifications before hiring him.

An approval letter will make your offer more attractive to potential sellers. Holding off on a mortgage approval lengthens any buying process and extending that can grow expensive.

TIP! When looking to select the perfect agent to represent you, make sure you inquire how long he or she has lived in your preferred area. If an agent is new to a community or the business, they are likely devoid of deep knowledge regarding local roads, neighborhood restrictions and the general community.

Gather data on the local housing market. There are many websites to look up local data by zip code, including selling prices, time on market, foreclosures and more. Also, you should check out local employers, the unemployment rate, and average income level. In some cases, having the perfect location can override other factors.

When you are interviewing real estate agents, make sure you have a list of questions already planned out. You should ask them specific questions about their track record. Your agent should have all of those answers for you!

TIP! Always obtain home warranty protection. Ask for warranty coverage when buying directly from a builder or from a seller.

If you are looking to purchase real estate as an investment, you should seek the help of a real estate agent or broker. These people will have resources that may not be directly available to you. Oftentimes, brokers have access to software that sorts and organizes housing listings based on your needs and preferences. While the MLS is accessible to you as well, search tools make it far easier for agents to help you identify ideal properties.

If it?s affordable, don?t buy a home that backs or faces a busy road. These properties will cheaper than those away from the roads, however, they are cheaper for several reasons. While having a busy roadside home may not be a bother to you, there will be little resale value in the property when it comes time to move on.

A home should only have a fireplace located in the family room unless the property is located in a particularly chilly climate. Multiple fireplaces don?t get used as a general rule, and they are a nuisance to keep clean.

TIP! Never close a deal on a house before you have it inspected by an inspection professional. If you purchase without an expert?s evaluation of the house, you could be facing the cost for major repairs.

Before you begin searching for a new home, get a copy of your credit report. Look through your history carefully, if there?s anything wrong then be sure to take note of it and take the necessary steps to correcting them. You want to make sure your credit is in good shape as you head into the home buying process; this will help you secure a mortgage.

When you are looking for a new home, don?t be swayed by great decor. You should only consider buying a home based on it?s construction and shape. When basing a purchase on the decor of the house, you might overlook serious defects which can be expensive to fix after the purchase.

Exercise flexibility when making decisions. You might not have the financial resources to buy your dream house in your dream neighborhood, but you might have enough to choose one of the two. Think about settling for a different house or a different area you can afford.

TIP! Now is the perfect time to start investing in real estate. Property values are lower than ever, meaning some great deals can be found.

When you are in the midst of a real estate transaction, prioritize your goals to get the best deal. You need to be able to identify anything that you have an issue with and relay how you expect each issue to be handled. Make sure you stick to the important issues during negotiations. You cannot get everything that you want when you negotiate. Flexibility is key to getting the things you really do want.

If you are serious about purchasing a property, get a professional building inspector to have a look at it. Home inspectors are trained professional who will thoroughly inspect every aspect of the property you are wanting to purchase. Using the services of a relative or friend will not give you future recourse if something goes seriously wrong.

Most first-time homeowners aren?t aware of the complicated issues that are involved in buying a home. When purchasing your next piece of real estate, make sure you keep this advice in

TIP! If you haven?t bought your dream home, it may be time to start looking. Many investors advise that this is not a good time to move into a bigger house; however, others do not see it that way.

Two categories of multiple sclerosis patients defined

ScienceDaily (Sep. 26, 2012) ? There are approximately 400,000 people in the United States with multiple sclerosis. Worldwide, the number jumps to more than 2.1 million people. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach to treating the millions with multiple sclerosis, what if doctors could categorize patients to create more personalized treatments? A new study by researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) may one day make this idea a reality in the fight against the debilitating autoimmune disease.

A research team led by Philip De Jager, MD, PhD, BWH Department of Neurology, senior study author, has found a way to distinguish patients with multiple sclerosis into two meaningful subsets. The ability to categorize patients with multiple sclerosis may open new doors for treatment development.

The study will be electronically published on September 26, 2012 in Science Translational Medicine.

"Our results suggest that we can divide the multiple sclerosis patient population into groups that have different levels of disease activity," said De Jager. "These results motivate us to improve these distinctions with further research so that we may reach our goal of identifying the best treatment for each individual who has multiple sclerosis."

De Jager and his team extracted RNA -- key molecules involved in making proteins from the instructions found in the DNA sequence -- from blood cells of patients with multiple sclerosis. After analyzing the samples, they found distinct sets of RNA molecules among the patient samples. These unique sets formed a transcriptional signature that distinguished two sets of multiple sclerosis patients -- MSa patients and MSb patients -- with those in the MSa group having a higher risk for future multiple sclerosis relapse.

According to the researchers, knowing the category a person with multiple sclerosis is in may help doctors make more informed treatment decisions. For instance, since a patient who falls into the MSa category is more likely to experience relapse, her doctor may consider a stronger treatment for the patient.

In light of the discovery, the researchers remain cautious about the findings.

"Our study is an important step towards the goal of personalized medicine in MS, but much work remains to be done to understand under which circumstance and in combination with which other information this transcriptional signature may become useful in a clinical setting," said De Jager.

However, from the pre-clinical perspective, the researchers recognize that the findings are essential because they build on earlier studies that had suggested that this structure might be present.

"The study will further enable the community of MS researchers to build upon this transcriptional signature with other data in order to enhance patient care in the future," said De Jager.

How to Consolidate Your Debt and Pros and Cons

Getting into debt is really easy if someone is willing to give you a credit line. It?s the getting out of debt that is the hard part.

Many financial gurus advise against debt consolidation. ?There?s the old adage of ?You can?t go into debt to get out of debt.?

While consolidating does have its risks, it can be beneficial in helping you turn your finances around.

Pros and Cons of Consolidating Debt

First let?s look at the positives and negatives of using debt consolidation to helping you get out of debt once and for all.

Pros of Debt Consolidation

Debt consolidation is where you take a bunch of varied debts, varied interest rates, and varied minimum payments and pay them all off with one giant chunk of money.

You borrowed the giant chunk of money, but using it allows you to have one bill, one creditor, and one interest rate.

Continues after Advertisement

Consolidating your debts down into one payment?can save you significant amounts of interest if you use the right consolidation tools.

Imagine taking a bunch of credit cards with 20% interest rates and dropping them to a 10% consolidation loan rate. ?Even though that rate is high, you just cut your interest costs in half.

Also, consolidation only works if you don?t get back into debt while you?re paying off your consolidation loan.

Cons of Debt Consolidation

pros and cons of debt consolidation

Consolidating your debt can be a great way to help pay off bills but it can also be a money trap if you aren?t careful.

It?s worth repeating:?debt consolidation only works if you avoid going into debt in the future, especially while you are paying off your consolidation loan.

The absolute biggest risk ? and mistake that many people make ? is they?ll consolidate $30,000 of debt using something like a home equity line of credit or a balance transfer on a credit card. ?They temporarily save interest, but they don?t change the habits that got them into debt in the first place.

The results can be?disastrous.

You max out a credit line on one side to pay off all your other debts, but then find yourself with a new stack of other debts that you now cannot pay.

Debt Consolidation Options

As risky as debt consolidation can be, it does pay off if you can be disciplined and work your debt payoff plan.

Here are some ?debt?consolidation?options to consider:

Balance Transfers

If you are dealing with a lot of credit card debt one of the easiest ways to temporarily drop your interest rate is through a balance transfer.

With a balance transfer you open a new credit line with a new company, and they pay off the balance on your old card and put it on the new account.

Continues after Advertisement

A few years ago balance transfer offers were so?prolific?that some people took our extra credit just to have cash sitting in a savings account earning interest while paying 0% to the card company for 12 months. ?After the financial crisis these offers dried up, but they are starting to come back now.

You will almost always pay a balance transfer fee of 3% for your new credit card company to transfer the funds, but you will usually get 0% interest for 12 to 18 months after that as a reward.

This buys you time to pay off your balance as much as possible ? or lets you pay just the minimum payment while you focus your debt payment on other debts with higher interest rates.

Related: The Best Zero Percent Balance Transfer Credit Cards.

Personal Loans

A personal loan is where a financial institute extends a loan to you directly in order to pay off some of your debts.

These loans are fixed rate and for fixed amounts which is a great thing: you don?t have to worry about the interest rate going through the roof or getting yourself into trouble by racking up a higher balance.

The whole point is to take the money, pay off your higher interest rate debts, and send your payments in toward the fixed loan cost.

HELOC and Cash-Out Refinancing

Both home equity lines of credit (HELOC) and Cash-Out Refinancing are ways you can consolidate debts, but they are significantly more risky than unsecured credit lines like a balance transfer.

With these loans you are taking equity out of your home and using it to pay off your debts.

This means you can get rock-bottom interest rates (refinancing rates are around 3-4% depending on if you take a 15 or 30 year term) and save a ton of money in interest.

It also means that if you default on your payments, the bank takes your home. ?Then you?ll be up to your eyeballs in debt and have no where to live. ?Losing your home is a great risk to this type of debt consolidation. ?However, with the low, low interest rates you can get it can be tempting. ?It is the classic risk versus reward scenario.

P2P Loan

Peer-to-Peer lending is a relatively new contender to the lending scene.

Instead of going to a financial institution like a bank or credit card company, you turn to your peers for a loan. ?You put up the details of your debt, why you?re wanting to use the funds, and the P2P site dictates your credit worthiness. ?Groups of people all chip in small amounts of money in your loan in hopes that as you pay it off they will get their principal back plus some interest for their risk.

This method isn?t as cut and dry as some of the above methods because it isn?t as common. ?Also, your interest rates may not drop significantly ? it all depends on how your credit worthiness is determined by the P2P site. However, it is another method of paying off debts with a consolidation loan that many people find useful.

Have you ever consolidated your debt? How did you do it?

Remember that question, key to the rise of the Democrats' "reproductive health" rock star Sandra Fluke, supposedly answered only by the ladies of the Democratic convention who stand enthusiastically with the president in insisting that religious institutions and individuals comply with curtailed religious liberty in the name of a radical redefinition of what basic health is?

Well, as Kathryn Jean Lopez reminds us, it just so happens there are plenty of women here, insisting that "invoking 'women's health' to shout down deeply held beliefs is a mistake":

Kathryn Jean Lopez has much more. As she goes on to point out, there are plenty of women defending religious liberty and they have been for months. Join them in the next 40 or so days, sharing what we've known and believed about religious liberty. Get educated about the choices this election.

Kean/Singer Student Loan Literacy Legislation Clears Committee ...

Legislation sponsored by Senators Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Union) and Robert W. Singer (R- Ocean) designed to help high school students better understand the financial obligations they are incurring when taking out student loans to finance their post-secondary education has been approved by the Senate Higher Education Committee.

The bill, S- 2150, requires the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) to develop a document containing student loan repayment information on state, federal and private student loans, and mandates that document be disseminated by school districts and nonpublic high schools to students.

Kean said that student loan debt presents challenges to new graduates that they may or may not have foreseen when choosing what institution to attend or degree to pursue.

?Americans citizens are now in greater debt for student loans than they are their cars or credit cards,? said Kean. ?It is straining our economy and severely crippling the financial stability of graduates just starting out in life during an economic downturn. Just as important for young people as having access to education financing is having access to information that spells out explicitly what the loans mean for their personal finances after graduation. Young people and their parents need to make smart choices about their education based in part on how the debt they will incur helps their job prospects and earning potential after graduation.?

Singer said that for most high school graduates, student loans are the first major financial transaction they will make in their lives.

?Student loans are being taken out by young people who likely have never incurred a major financial obligation in their lives and have limited financial literacy,? said Singer, who sits on the board of Georgian Court University in Lakewood. ?They need to have a grasp of what loan repayment will mean for them prior to deciding where they go to school, what they will study, and how much money they will borrow. We cannot just expect that a teenager is going to grasp what it means to finance an education costing tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars without illustrating it for them.?

[English readers: you can find English links in this post for your convenience]

Maggiori dettagli tecnici per professionisti IT:

Il riepilogo degli aggiornamenti di settembre, che include questo rilascio straordinario, ? disponibile a questo link

e il bollettino con i dettagli tecnici:

  • [EN/IT] MS12-063 - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2744842)

Mi raccomando aggiornate, aggiornate e fate aggiornare passando parola!

Are You Playing Hide and Seek In Your Relationship? |

Post image for Are You Playing Hide and Seek In Your Relationship?

VIDEO: If relationships and people were all the same ?color?, ?tone?, and ?speed? then they?d be quite uneventful and boring. Fortunately relationships are comprised of two unique individuals that have different ways of living, being and communicating. Sometimes these differences create relationship challenges where patterns of behavior unintentionally develop. The pattern that we frequently see among couples is one of HIDE -N- SEEK. Generally speaking as it pertains to relationship issues?.one person is chasing to talk through and process an issue while the other person is running away to avoid and escape an issue. This pattern of behavior eventually becomes a vicious cycle where both parties are entrenched in their roles. We become so attached to our roles that somehow without realizing it we become more more committed to playing out our parts (pursuer or withdrawer) than really looking at whether or not this behavior is working for or against us. This is unfortunate because more often than not this Hide-N-Seek routine does not lead to resolution of the issues?but rather frustration, anger, and resentment. So, what do you do??? The pursuers reading this are thinking ?We have to talk!? and the withdrawers ?reading are thinking ?He or She has to get off my back!? Well, rest easy. We have the solution. Listen in and learn how to break this crazy and vicious cycle.
